There was a Koppensteiner Burg just south of Kirchberg in Henau. This article indicates that this family started with Johann II von Sponheim-Kreuznach († 1340), Count of the Front County of Sponheim. With this count's son Wallrab , the Koppenstein family began in the 14th century. With Jakob Adolf von Koppenstein, the male line died out in 1768. So the Noble Koppenstein family started about mid-1300's and ended in 1768. This makes one wonder how this family relates to the Kopperstein and Koberstein familiy names. 17th Century

1653 marr.

The noble Junker family: Georg Gerhardt Von Koppenstein married to Elisabeth Von Schmidburg with ten children: 1) Wollffgang Friedrich Von Koppenstein-1654, 2) Sibilla Rosina Von Koppenstein-1656, 3) Maria Elisabetha Von Koppenstein-1659, 4) Anna Maria Von Koppenstein-1661, 5) Catharina Judit Von Koppenstein-1663, 6) Carolus Otto Von Koppenstein-1665, 7) Georg Wilhelm Von Koppenstein-1667, 8) Ernestus Matthias Von Koppenstein-1669, 9) Christianus Damian Hugo Von Koppenstein-1671, 10) Anna Julianna Von Koppenstein-1674. They were all christened in Dill or Kirchberg, Kries Simmern in Rheinland, Prussia. Note: Georg is mentioned in the church Communicant records for Dill where Adam Friedrich Von Koppersteins marriage record is found.

There was also a Friedrich Adam Koppenstein (FamilySearch decendancy) in Kirchberg and it is unclear how they link to Georg above and/or Adam below (1682)

Here is a two generation FamilySearch Koppenstein decendancy that concludes with Jacobus Adolphus De Koppenstein born in 1702 could be the same one above that died in 1768. It is date wise possible this is one of the final decendants of the Georg Gerhardt Von Koppenstein above but is not proven. Note Von or De are somewhat equivalent nobility indicators.

Interestingly there was a Koppenstein family that starts in Saxony with Leopold father of Heinrich and ends up in Russia and goes into the 1800's which inconsistent with the mid 1300's-1768 bookends given above. Here is the FamilySearch decendancy.

1656 Georgiy Kopperstein (decendancy view in FamilySearch) chr. 1656 at Napratten,Ostpreussen to Michael and Anna Kopperstein.
1660 Adam, Friedrich Von Kopperstein (FamilySearch decendancy view) married to Anna Von Kesler? At Dill Germany Simmern Castle (Est. birth 1660)
1685 Rheiner Kopperstein (decendancy view at FamilySearch) (born ~1687 at Polch) married ~1711 in Polch to Alfra Henn (born ~1687 at Gering) and 7 children all born at Polch (1699-1714) except one at Gering who married Anatasia Henges Oct 1741 at Ulmen. The approximate marriage year is after 5 of the children were born so they were illigitimate or the marriage year is much earlier. He then married Sopia ~1715 at Polch and had two more children. This line is on FamilySearch and poorly documented.
1689 (abt.)

Arnold Kappenstein married Elizabeth Vierbuchen in 1708 at Oberwarnsbach, Rheinland (wife born in 1689).Note Oberwambach is a more probable location as it is near Altenkirchen and in Rheinland. But if it is actually Oberwarnsbach it is closer to the other location mentioned with this family, Morsbach. Arnold is contemporanious with Adam (above) and may be brothers due to the close birth years. There is also a Joes Tilmannus Kappenstein married to Anna Catharina Ex Pago with daughter Anna Elisabeta Kappenstein born 1707, son Joannes Simon Kappenstein born 1709 and unnamed daughter in 1713 all at Morsbach, Rheinland, Prussia. He must be related but how is unknown.

Here are links to the root person of each family line in their order from oldest to newest. There are no record links between these lines but the circumstantial evidence is strong.

However note that the variations in Koberstein below occure in american records indicating that it is not just a spelling variation but a family line that continued after emmigration.

# Birth - Root individual Reason for inclusion if last name is not spelled Koberstein
5 ~1634 - Georg Gerhardt Von Koppenstein
6 1669 - Adam Friedrich Von Kopperstein

Document name relates to Kobern family (#1 above) and docmented son's name was Koberstein. I have autosomal DNA evidance that I am related to this Koberstein line. Adam was married in 1682, but his only known children were born in 1701 and 1705. It seem probable he had more children between 1683 and 1700.

9 1687 - Joes Tilmannus Kappenstein Last name similar to Kopperstein in #5.
10 1688 - Arnold Kappenstein Last name similar to Kopperstein in #5 and the same as #8.
11 1728 - Johann Jacob Kappenstein Last name similar to Kopperstein in #5 and the same as #8.

Estimated birthdays are 20 years before marriage or 21 years before first childs birth.
