Murphysboro, Ill. — Emily Koberstein, of Murphysboro, is the recipient of the Academic Scholarship for Freshman at Southern Illinois University Carbondale for the 2011 fall semester. The Academic Scholarship for Freshman is valued at $14,000. Scholarships are based on academic merit and potential for superior achievement in college.

Koberstein, who will be a 2011 graduate of Murphysboro High School, is the daughter of Jan Koberstein and Mike Koberstein. Her honors and awards include Student of the Month, Illinois Scholar, Top 6, and High Honors. Koberstein also participates in a variety of extracurricular activities including Dance Team, Teamquest, and the School Newspaper.

Koberstein plans to study Pshychology at SIUC.
