Shots help students Mitch Vance Issue date: 10/26/05 Section: News Flu season is just around the corner so now is a good time to think about getting a flu vaccination. That is what about 200 people did Monday in the University Center Council Room between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. University of Northern Colorado staff and students, as well as members of the Greeley community, lined up to be immunized in an event sponsored by North Colorado Medical Center. Many students rely on their yearly flu shot to help keep sickness at bay during the colder winter months. This was a good opportunity to get vaccinated outside a home doctor's office.Junior IDLA major Karissa Koberstein said she regularly receives flu shots. "I've noticed that since I started getting a flu shot every year that the winter flu season goes much smoother for me," she said. Koberstein said that although she is a healthy person, she receives the flu shot as a precautionary measure to maintain her health. The flu vaccine is $25, which can save money in the long run over hospital and doctor visits, Koberstein said. Also, pneumonia and tetanus shots were available at the clinic for $35 and $30, respectively. Roxanne Smith, of NCMC Wellness, organized the clinic at UNC. She said this was the first time they have done a clinic at UNC, and with this year's turnout they hope to make it a yearly event. "This was a wonderful event with an excellent turnout, and we enjoyed being out here supporting the health of UNC students and community members," she said.
