An unprecedented six Madison School District students attained a perfect score on recent ACT college entrance exams, district officials said Friday. Just 11 Wisconsin students received a score of 36, the top possible mark, out of 45,500 tested in April and June. ... Elaine praised her second grade teacher, Mrs. Koberstein, who still teaches at Orchard Ridge Elementary. "Well, my goodness. Isn't that nice?" Virginia Koberstein said when contacted Friday night. "I remember her very well. She was very serious about learning." Elaine recalled that Mrs. Koberstin recognized her early reading prowess and kept supplying more advanced books, "as high as I could get to." Which, as of today, is a 36.
